Estimator

We are seeking an Estimator to support a growing portfolio of commercial construction projects throughout Iowa and the Midwest. This position will focus on conceptual budgeting and preconstruction for negotiated work, often using schematic design drawings, permit drawings, and evolving construction documents rather than relying solely on complete plan-and-spec bid packages.
You will work closely with an experienced team of project managers who currently estimate their own work. The addition of a dedicated Estimator will expand team capacity, improve consistency, and provide a clear opportunity to influence the company’s estimating process.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare conceptual, schematic, permit-set, and detailed construction estimates.
• Review drawings to determine quantities, scope coverage, assumptions, exclusions, and project risks.
• Build and update project budgets as design information develops.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and compare trade coverage across bids.
• Collaborate with project managers to apply historical costs and lessons learned from past projects.
• Support value-engineering conversations and develop practical cost alternatives.
• Maintain clear estimate documentation, cost data, bid records, and vendor relationships.
• Balance multiple opportunities while meeting deadlines and communicating priorities.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Commercial construction estimating and budgeting.
• Ability to read schematic, permit, and construction drawings.
• Quantity takeoffs, scope review, and bid leveling.
• Subcontractor and supplier coordination.
• Microsoft Excel and strong general computer skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Organization, accuracy, curiosity, and sound judgment.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Three to five years of estimating experience preferred; candidates with one to two years will be considered.

Step into the first full-time Estimator position for an experienced commercial construction team. You will have the support of seasoned project managers, meaningful ownership of preconstruction, and the opportunity to help shape how the estimating function grows.
