We built two Scooter's Coffee Kiosk locations with Huff Contracting and we are pleased we chose them.
For the first build, we chose Huff Contracting because they had good references and a competitive bid. Brett Roth was the lead for our project and he was very responsive and communicated regularly with us to ensure we were informed of progress and any potential issues.
The build went well overall, especially considering it was delayed due to the city, pushing the build into the coldest months of the year. Due to this, there were change orders needed to build in the extreme cold, and I would say the costs for these were reasonable considering what was needed to keep the build on schedule. All along the way, Brett offered suggestions and options to keep costs down and the build on track. His efforts saved us several thousand dollars and headed off several potential problems due to errors he found on the architectural drawings.
Overall, the quality of the build was very good. The few minor issues we discovered after opening the store were quickly resolved to our satisfaction by Huff Contracting. They stood behind their work as promised.
This experience led us to choose Huff Contracting for our second build. For this one, we entered into a "cost-plus" agreement in place of bids. Our comfort level and trust with Huff Contracting was the reason for this decision and saved us lead time, and proved to be a good financial move as well. We were involved in each decision affecting cost and the build came in under budget and on time without sacrificing quality.
I highly recommend Brett Roth and Huff Contracting. They are very experienced with working with city offices, Scooter's Corporate, and first time business owners. They made us feel valued as a client and did a great job meeting deadlines while producing quality work.

Huff Contracting served as the general contractor for four Scooters Coffee stores built for my partners and myself over a two-year period from 2021 through 2022. Their bids were always competitive and the most cost effective. All the stores were completed on time within the overall budget. On those occasions with a decision had to be made regarding modifications or unexpected costs, Huff Contracting served as a partner helping make difficult decisions with modifications, taking cost and quality into consideration, as well as tradeoffs. These stores were built in a time when supplies could be difficult to obtain, and Huff Contracting went above and beyond in tracking down the necessary equipment. All we can say is that when it comes to a general contracting company (GC) with Integrity, Love, Humility and Courage – We choose Huff Contracting, Inc every time. On our 1st Scooter’s Coffee Kiosk, Brett Roth, Project Manager, suggested a cost-plus project versus bidding out. This was our first build, and we really did not understand the cost-plus concept and of course leery of the unknown. We opted to go with cost-plus after Brett took the time to discuss the process and how the numbers work between negotiated and bidding out projects. Brett is the epitome of Professionalism. When we first spoke, he said on average they would be able to get our store open a week or two faster than any other GC. Huff Contracting had us ready to open on October 18, 2023, versus November 4, 2023 – the target date – Now that’s impressive!! The Huff Team that was assigned to us could not have been any better. John Thomsen, Project Superintendent, kept things moving daily and was a multitude of things from problem solver to accountability officer. Not to mention, keeping us updated and informed as to the progress of the project. He was a huge help to us addressing any concerns we had and giving us his professional opinion, which was invaluable. The open conversations about budget, construction and planning from Brett and John gave us the confidence to know we were in good hands. Amy Naughton, with the Huff team, was tenacious and kept the paper trail moving and ensuring our loan requirements were met for payouts. This piece was so important for everyone involved as to not cause any delays. Another reason why they will be the general contractor we use from here on out, is that they continued to address any issues that came up after the project was complete with the same amount of effort and energy they used for the build….
